The Digital Manufacturing Lab is recently open at the Bath Ventures’ Innovation Centre. It will also showcase the power and the potential of RepRap 3D printing technology. The purpose of setting up the lab is to increase awareness of RepRap 3D printing potential benefits for businesses.

There is free introductory session covering the basics of RepRap and explaining the potential of 3D pringing technology. You can book the session here.

If you are interested in joining one-day workshops. The workshop will be delivered by Dr Adrian Bowyer and Dr Andrew Dent. Dr Adrian Bowyer is father of the RepRap. You can find here the registration page.

The Digital Manufacturing Lab has organized the following free event:

RepRap “Manufacturing for the Masses”

Date: Tuesday 1st November

Time: 5.30pm-7.30pm

Venue: Bath Ventures Innovation Centre, Carpenter House, Broad Quay, Bath, BA1 1UD

Look at your computer setup. Imagine that you hooked up a 3D printer. Instead of printing on bits of paper this 3D printer makes real, robust, mechanical items. To give you an idea of how robust these items are think of Lego bricks and you’re in the right area. You could make lots of useful stuff, but interestingly you could also make most of the parts to make another 3D printer. That would be a machine that could copy itself.

This talk will be about RepRap – the Replicating Rapid-prototyper. This 3D printer makes items by building them up in layers of plastic. What the RepRap team have done is to develop and to give away the designs for a machine with the novel capability of being able to self-copy (material costs are about GBP 300). That way it’s accessible to small communities in the developing world as well as individuals in the developed world. Anyone can swap designs for anything to be made on RepRap using the Internet in the same way that music is currently shared.

The RepRap machine is being distributed entirely free to everyone using open-source – so, if you have one in your company, you can make another for yourself and double your production capacity…

The speaker of the event will be Dr Adrian Bowyer.
